HILL PRINCE

Hill Prince was a champion for each of his first three years of racing. He won six of his first seven starts, including the Cowdin Stakes. At year's end he was named Champion 2-year-old.
At 3: In his finest season at 3, Hill Prince won the Wood Memorial, Withers, Preakness, American Derby, Jerome Handicap, Jockey Club Gold Cup, and Sunset Handicap. He ended the season with Horse of the Year honors.
At 4: Hill Prince won the New York Handicap, but his season was cut short by a fractured cannon bone. Despite the injury, he was named Handicap Horse of the Year. The following season Hill Prince won the San Marcos Handicap in his final victory.
At stud Hill Prince sired 23 stakes winners as well as the dams of Hall of Fame members Dark Mirage and Shuvee.
Stud fee in 1964 was $5,000 live foal at Claiborne. Died in 1970, age 23. Elected to Hall of Fame in 1991.
