Young Seth Hancock, thrust into leadership of the farm, syndicates champion Secretariat for record $6 million. Secretariat, a son of Bold Ruler, then wins the first American Triple Crown in 25 years and is retired to Claiborne late in the year. Claiborne sells Wajima for world auction yearling record of $600,000 at Keeneland.
