TWO NEW MAIDEN WINNERS FOR FLATTER!
On the final day of the 2007 racing season, our Freshman Sire FLATTER had his SEVENTEENTH and EIGHTEENTH WINNER!

CHAMPAGNE EYES, who has been thought so highly of by her connections that she was campaigned exclusively in stakes races for her first three starts, made her first start in maiden special weight competition and she easily handled the field in the 2nrd race at Santa Anita going a mile and one-sixteenth over the Cushion track.

CHAMPAGNE EYES galloped easily along while prompting the pacesetter from the outside. Taking over coming into the stretch, she opened a two length lead under a hand ride and won as much the best.

CHAMPAGNE EYES carries the Superman silks of Suarez Racing, Inc. and she is trained by Doug O'Neill. Bred in Kentucky by B. D. Gibbs Farm, LLC and Fleetwood Bloodstock, she is out of the Sensitive Prince mare, Corking.

The second maiden winner for FLATTER today was NORMAN'S GIRL, who came from the clouds to break her maiden in the 6th race at Philadelphia Park going a mile and seventy yards.

NORMAN'S GIRL had finished second in her first career start and was the second choice of betters to make it to the winner's circle today. She was away well, but showed no early speed and she was ten lengths back  around the first turn and down that backstretch. She began a wide sweeping move midway around the final turn and found her best stride at the top of the stretch. She gobbled up ground, split horses inside the sixteenth pole and got up to win by a neck.

The second foal from the Cryptoclearance mare, I'm a Crypto, she was bred in Kentucky by Tony Evangelista. She races for Gianca Stable and is trained by Alfredo Velasquez.

RUTHERIENNE SCORES ANOTHER GRADED STAKES WIN!
by:
CRC Publicity

Virginia Kraft Payson’s homebred Grade I winning 3-year-old filly RUTHERIENNE (PULPIT) returned to Calder, where she won her two starts last season, to win the $100,000 Frances A. Genter Stakes (G3) on Saturday, Grand Slam III day at the track.

It was a hard-fought win, with only a neck separating RUTHERIENNE from two fillies that dead-heated for the place position: Sweet Ransom and Pretoria Light. Ridden by jockey Rene Douglas for trainer Christophe Clement, RUTHERIENNE covered the seven and a half furlongs over firm turf in 1:28.16.

“One of the tricks to riding on this turf course is taking what you get and making the most of it," said winning rider Rene Douglas. "That horse (Pretoria Light) was tough to catch the way she went out on the lead. We had good position down the backside and when I stepped on the gas she went right between horses, then we had to work hard to catch the leader.”

“The way the course was playing (speed), Rene (Douglas) put her a little closer to the pace than she usually is, which might have taken a little off of her closing kick, but she got the job done," said RUTHERIENNE's trainer Christophe Clement. "She’s a very good filly and I didn’t really have her at 100 per cent (fit) for this race, but she was able to overcome that. She’ll get some time off now until April, probably coming back at Gulfstream or Keeneland. The goals after that are the Just a Game at Belmont and the Diana at Saratoga, both Grade 1s.”

December 29, 2007:

FLUFF broke from the outside post in the field of eleven and showed no early speed for the six furlongs. She circled the field coming off the far turn and flew down the long stretch, gobbling up ground with every stride and despite her best effort, she came up a head short. However, the winner was disqualified for cause interference to another rival in the stretch and the victory was awarded to FLUFF.

Calder Race Course Publicity

Den-Pal’s 2-year-old Kentucky-bred filly INDY'S ALEXANDRA remains undefeated in three starts after her victory in the $100,000 Three Ring Stakes at Calder on Saturday. The Three Ring was the second of four stakes races on Calder’s Grand Slam I program.

It was INDY'S ALEXANDRA's first attempt around two turns. The Three Ring Stakes is 1 1/16 miles on the main track and Indy’s Alexandra covered the distance in 1:48.06, leading every step of the way under jockey Elvis Trujillo.

“This filly was a little sharp the first quarter mile, coming out of those two sprints," said winning rider Elvis Trujillo. "She settled very nicely, though, and once she relaxed on the lead it helped her to get the distance. I think now that she has this two-turn race under her belt she will be good at any distance.”

“I got her about a month after they bought her at the sales (OBS June 2-year-old sales)," said winning trainer Mary Wolfson. A friend of the owner picked her out. She’s come along very quickly. I was very confident that she would get the distance today. We’ll wait for Gulfstream now…a one-turn mile or two turns.”

Marty Wolfson trains INDY'S ALEXANDRA, who has been sent off as the favorite in each of her races. Today she returned $3.00, $2.80 and $2.10.

December 1, 2007:
SIXTEENTH FIRST CROP WINNER FOR EASING ALONG!
JUST A LOOK (ARG
), the 3-year-old son of EASING ALONG, broke his maiden in his second lifetime start, scoring an impressive victory going 1,400 grassy meters in the 9th race at San Isidro. He is the SIXEENTH WINNER from his sire's first crop!

Second in his career debut on July 20 over the same course and distance, JUST A LOOK was first out of the gate, but two speedballs decided they wanted to set a rapid pace, so JUST A LOOK settled into a relax gallop down the backstretch and going into the sweeping far turn. He rallied to even terms at the top of the long stretch and he was confidently ridden to the wire, cruising to the finish in hand and winning by four lengths.

JUST A LOOK is out of TIZ A LOOKER, a Mr. Prospector mare whose dam was the multiple G1-winner Tizna (CHI).

November 30, 2007:
THIRTEENTH WINNER FOR FLATTER!
UNFLATTERED
is the THIRTEENTH WINNER for Freshman Sire FLATTER! The 2-year-old filly closed strongly through the stretch to win the 2nd race at Golden Gate Fields, a maiden going one mile over the Tapeta surface.

UNFLATTERED rated near the back of the pack for the first half mile. She edged closer around the far turn but with traffic ahead, she was fanned four wide into the stretch. She gamely kept closing, catching the leader passing the eighth pole and she went on to win by a length and one-quarter.

UNFLATTERED is a homebred racing for Rod and Lorraine Rodriguez and she is trained by Greg James. She is the first foal from the winning Unbridled mare, Unravel.

BSHARPSONATA WINS SELIMA STAKES!

Courtesy of Laurel Park
Cloverleaf Farm II Inc.’s BSHARPSONATA pulled off a mild upset when she scored from just off the pace in the $125,000 Selima Stakes for two-year old fillies at Laurel Park.

Trained by Tim Salzman and ridden by local journeyman Eric Camacho, BSHARPSONATA broke alertly in the 1-1/16th mile test, then settled back along the rail and tracked frontrunners Fareena and Dagger to the top of the stretch on the firm turf. At the head of the lane she accelerated between the top two to wrest command, then romped home a 1-1/4 length winner in 1:43.66. Grace of Power rallied to take second while Fareena held on to be third.

The winner, a bay daughter of PULPIT who had won the Irish Sonnet Stakes on the main track at Delaware Park in late September, paid $19.60. The 6-2 exacta returned $90.20 and the 6-2-11 triple came back $695.60.

Jockey Camacho said, “As soon as I hit the head of the lane I thought I needed a seat belt to hold on. I worked her on the turf the other day and I said she’s the real deal. I sat a perfect trip. I couldn’t have asked for a better trip. We got over from the six-hole and were able to save as much ground as you can. I went to the rail and just tried to travel behind Fareena. My idea was to wait, wait, wait, and once I hit the head of the lane, angled out and she shot out off that rail and was moving. This is a push button horse and an absolute pleasure to ride.”

In her last start, BSHARPSONATA finished fourth on a yielding turf at Monmouth Park four weeks ago.

Trainer Salzman said, “She’s pretty much handled everything we’ve asked. Today when she straightened up she just took off. We’ll see how she comes out of the race, where she’s goes next. She can handle dirt or turf. In her last race when she finished fourth after leading down the lane, she probably tired because of the soft grass. That was a little better brand of horses. There were about a lot of variables. Camacho rode her just as I wanted.”

November 24, 2007:
ABSOLUTELY CINDY WINS CARESSING HANDICAP!
ABSOLUTELY CINDY
, the 2-year-old daughter of ARCH, made her stakes debut a winning one, taking the $64,000 Caressing Handicap going one mile over the yielding turf course on the closing day Stars of Tomorrow program at Churchill Downs.

ABSOLUTELY CINDY broke her maiden going nine furlongs over the Polytrack at Keeneland last time out,  and she had her share of trouble to get past this time. Bobbling at the break, she was at the back of the pack and raced four wide around the first turn and down the back stretch. With a quarter mile left to run, she was still in tenth place and jockey Larry Melancon had to guide her to eight path to mount her challenge. Once in the clear, she exploded with an impressive closing kick and gobbled up ground with every stride. She swept past the leaders in the last few jumps to win by one length.

ABSOLUTELY CINDY is owned and trained by Ronald Kinmon and she was bred by Keith Kinmon. She was produced by the winning L'Enjoleur mare, Ms. Boucheron.

MINI SERMON WINS G2 TOP FLIGHT HANDICAP!

Courtesy of NYRA
By Francis LaBelle Jr.  Edward P. Evans’ MINI SERMON wore down front-running Lady Marlboro with a relentless stretch drive and got a nose down at the wire Friday afternoon to win the 68th running of the Grade 2, $150,000 Top Flight Handicap, presented by Delta Airlines.

The one-mile, main track feature for fillies and mares attracted a seasoned group, but it was MINI SERMON, a three-year-old PULPIT filly that came up big for her first graded stakes victory.

After a clean start for all, Lady Marlboro and jockey Javier Castellano took the lead and set a pace of :23.38; :46.98 and 1:11.96 on the good track, while pressed by Pool Land.

MINI SERMON, meanwhile, stayed inside under jockey Eibar Coa, who then brought her three-wide to take on the front-runner in the lane. Lady Marlboro refused to quit and they battled to the wire with Mini Sermon winning the bob in 1:37.29.

“I was trying to bide my time,” Coa said. “At the three-eighths pole, I knew I had some horse, but I didn’t know how much horse. My horse was running, but the other horse wasn’t stopping. She kept digging and digging and digging and finally put a head in front.”

It was the fifth win in eight starts for MINI SERMON, who returned $15.60 to the $2 win players among the crowd of 3,196. She was partly responsible for Saturday’s Pick 6 Carryover of $118,970.

“Coming into this race, she was doing everything right,” said Seth Benzel, assistant to winning trainer Todd Pletcher. “ Eibar (Coa) put a perfect ride on her. He saved ground and let her relax. He was able to move her out, and wear them down after that. I don’t know what they are going to do with her. I certainly think she would be very useful here.”

Favored Golden Velvet was third, followed by Cindy’s Mom, Altesse, Pool Land, Lost Etiquette and Baby Bird.

TWELFTH WINNER FOR FLATTER!
I'M FLATTERED
became the TWELFTH WINNER from the first crop of our Freshman Sire FLATTER with her victory in the 5th race at Philadelphia Park, a six furlong maiden special weight over the fast main track.

I'M FLATTERED was away sharply from post six and her natural speed carried her to a pace prompting position. She battled the pacesetter head and head from the three-eighths pole until deep stretch when she gained the advantage and went on to win by three-quarters of a length.

I'M FLATTERED is a homebred racing for Daniel Ryan and she is trained by Michael Pino. She is out of the Smarten mare, Tali Tubby.

November 14, 2007:
ELEVENTH WINNER FOR FLATTER!
MAD FLATTER
, who was second in his debut in a maiden special weight at Keeneland over the Polytrack, had no trouble with the sloppy main track and he rolled to victory in the 10 race, a maiden special weight going six and one-half furlongs.

The ELEVENTH WINNER for our FRESHMAN SIRE FLATTER was off sharply from post two and he immediately engaged in a battle for the lead.  As the field came off the turn, he turned on a burst of speed and opened up a four length lead in a matter of strides. He coasted on in under a hand ride to win impressively.

MAD HATTER is a Florida homebred racing for Bonnie Heath Farm, LLC. He is the third foal from the winning Honor Grades mare, Miss Pangea.

ARCH FILLY WINS MISS AMERICA STAKES!
Courtesy of Golden Gate Fields

NORTH BEACH held off 3-to-2 favorite Round Trip Flight through the stretch and won the $75,000 Miss America Stakes by 1 1/2 lengths Sunday at Golden Gate Fields.

The Miss America, a 1 1/8-mile race for fillies and mares, was scheduled to be run on the turf, however, the feature was moved to GGF’s new Tapeta racing surface after steady rains Saturday and early Sunday morning soaked the Lakeside Turf Course.

NORTH BEACH, trained by O. J. Jauregui and ridden by Luis Contreras, moved to the lead on the second turn and continued on strongly to the wire.  Round Trip Flight, with Russell Baze aboard, took second by 3 1/2 lengths over Grat.  Higher Love, the early pacesetter, finished fourth.

The Miss America marked the first stakes win for NORTH BEACH, a 4-year-old filly owned by Ann Marie Farm, and the first U.S. stakes victory for jockey Contreras, who came to Northern California from Mexico last February.

"I’m excited,” said Contreras, who has won numerous stakes in his native Mexico.  “She’s a nice filly.  I felt confident the whole way.  I wasn’t worried about anyone catching her [in the stretch] because she was running so strong.”

Jauregui said the change in surfaces for the Miss America didn’t concern him. “I was confident going turf or dirt,” said Jauregui.  “This filly’s getting better every time.  When she worked [five furlongs] on the Tapeta the other day [Nov. 3], I got her in 1:01 3/5, so I knew she could handle the track.  I’m going to try to keep her on turf as much as I can.”

NORTH BEACH paid $6.00 after recording her fourth victory in eight career starts.  A Kentucky-bred daughter of ARCH, NORTH BEACH earned $45,000 for the Miss America win.

Jauregui said the Grade 2 $150,000 Dahlia Handicap, a 1 1/16-mile turf race for fillies and mares at Hollywood Park on Dec. 16, would likely be the next target for NORTH BEACH.

ROUGH ROAD AHEAD WINS NEW JERSEY FUTURITY!
A muddy track awaited the runners in the $57,333 New Jersey Futurity going six furlongs at the Meadowland, but the surface didn't bother ROUGH ROAD AHEAD, who rallied from a stalking spot to become the latest stakes winner for HORSE CHESTNUT!

The 2-year-old chestnut colt was away sharply and he stalked the pacesetters from third. He came calling for the lead with a three wide move into the stretch. Catching the leaders inside the eighth pole, he went on to win by a neck.

ROUGH ROAD AHEAD races for his breeder, the Roseland Farm Stable and he is trained by John Tammaro, III. He has won or placed in three of his five starts. A half-brother to the multiple stakes winner, Smart N Classy, he is out of the Regal Classis mare, Teenage Queen.

FIFTEENTH FIRST CROP WINNER FOR EASING ALONG!
CARABINIERI (ARG
), the 3-year-old son of EASING ALONG, became the FIFTEENTH WINNER from his first crop! He broke his maiden by a nose over a field of twelve going 2,000 meters (approx. ten furlongs) in the 3rd race at La Plata in Argentina.

$1.7M PULPIT FILLY AT KEENELAND NOVEMBER!
A filly by PULPIT who is the first foal from Grade 1 winner Madcap Escapade brought a final bid of $1,700,000, the top price for a weanling at the opening session of the 2007 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale!

The first foal from her dam, the bay filly was purchased by Southern Equine Stable, who alread had an ownership interest in the filly as well as her dam.

"Our game plan was to keep her and sell her as a yearling, but John (Sikura) thought we'd get a yearling price for her here and that's pretty much what happened, Eric Guillot of Southern Equine commented. "She's so phenomenal looking. She's got better front legs than the average mare here. I remember watching her mom race on TV and she looked like she was a different species."

"She literally stood out in the post parade, continued Guillot. "I'd like to keep her under my care so that the filly gets every chance to enhance her mare's value as a future asset.

The filly may be offered for resale, but that is not set in stone.

"Let's see how she grows up and let's see how the market looks," Guillot said. "You don't have to make those kinds of decisions today. She looks like the kind you turn around and if PULPIT has another year like he had this year and as good as this filly looks, she ought to shine as a yearling. But if she grows up and I like her, I'll keep and race her."

SMART ENOUGH WINS CHEROKEE RUN HANDICAP AT CHURCHILL DOWNS!
Courtesty of
Churchill Downs

by John Asher
Favored SMART ENOUGH, ridden by Chris DeCarlo, rallied from just off the pace to grab the lead in the stretch and quickly drew away for 3 1/4-length victory over Chihulykee in the 4th running of the $115,300 Cherokee Run Handicap for 3-year-olds and up at five furlongs on turf on Sunday at Churchill Downs.

The runner-up in the Cherokee Run in 2006, SMART ENOUGH made amends as he covered the distance in :56.53 and paid $5.20, $3 and $2.40. Chihulykee, who held well for second after he fought for the early lead under jockey Julien Leparoux, paid $5.40 and $3.40. Fort Prado, who saw a two-race winning streak snapped under Rene Douglas, edged Atticus Kristy for third and paid $4.20.

SMART ENOUGH, a Maryland-based gelding by HORSE CHESTNUT owned by Edith R. Dixon, improved his career record to 10-1-3 in 15 races and the winner’s purse of $69,342 raised his lifetime earnings to $647,543. The Cherokee Run victory was his fifth in seven races in 2007. Trained by John R. S Fisher, SMART ENOUGH came into the race at Churchill Downs off a third-place run as the favorite in the $500,000 Nearctic (Grade II) at Woodbine.

“It was very impressive and very sweet since he ran second in this race last year,” said Fisher. “I had this race targeted after the race at Woodbine. That was the big race and we got beat, but the horse came back like he didn’t lose any weight at all on the trip to Woodbine. He was bucking and squealing and playing and feeling good and I thought I ought to take a shot.”

Man of Danger broke sharply and was more than a length clear just a few strides out of the starting gate, but he was quickly engaged by Chihulykee and that pair dueled head-and-head through early fractions of :22.34 and :44.91. DeCarlo had SMART ENOUGH just off the leaders in third, but the winner quickly swept to the front in upper stretch and instantly drew clear. Chihulykee briefly stuck his head in front in the stretch, but offered no resistance when SMART ENOUGH swept past. Fort Prado and Atticus Kristy from sixth and seventh, respectively, but never threatened the winner and finished a neck apart in third and fourth, a length behind the runner-up.

“It was actually very easy,” said DeCarlo, who notched his first stakes victory at Churchill Downs. “He broke well and sat off the two speed horses, which was the plan, and when I called on him, he took off.”

CORINTHIAN WINS INAUGURAL BREEDERS' CUP DIRT MILE!
CORINTHIAN
, the 4-year-old son of PULPIT, destroyed the field to win the inaugural $1,000,000 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile Stakes over the sloppy main track at Monmouth Park!

Winner earlier this season of the prestigious Met Mile and the Gulfsteam Park Handicap, CORINTHIAN could not have been more impressive. Away in good order, he rated comfortably four lengths away from the leader through the opening half mile. He closed the gap quickly and waited for a seam to run through. When his lane opened and jockey Kent Desormeaux asked him for his best, he burst through with a powerful move and the race was over. He galloped away with authority and no one got close. He crossed under the wire six and one-half lengths best!

"This colt is a fireball," Desormeaux told the Daily Racing Form. "He just dragged me down the stretch."

CORINTHIAN takes his career record to six wins, on second and two thirds in twelve starts. He has earned $1,267,273. He races for Centennial Farms and he is trained by Jimmy Jerkins. Bred in Kentucky by Gracefield Equine and Hargus Sexton, he is out of the Easy Goer mare, Multiply.

SMART ENOUGH WINS HIS FOURTH STAKES OF 2007!

SMART ENOUGH, the son of HORSE CHESTNUT, was taken out of his game but his talent and determination carried him to victory in the $56,815 Thomas Edison Stakes going five furlongs over the firm turf course at the Meadowlands!

In most races, any trouble encountered in going short results in defeat, but SMART ENOUGH would have none of that. Usually near the pace, SMART ENOUGH found himself in fifth down the backstretch. Picking up the pace, he was moving between horses going into the turn, but hole closed and jockey Chris DeCarlo had to check him sharply. He got going again and got bounced around coming off the far. Finally in the clear at the top of the stretch, he unleashed a strong closing kick and got closer to the leaders with every stride. He found a faster gear leaving the sixteenth pole and flew to the wire, dashing past them all to win by a half-length.

SMART ENOUGH has won four stakes this season and his has raised his lifetime earns to $512,54 for Mrs. Edith Dixon. Trained by John R. S. Fisher, he has won or placed in twelve of his thirteen career starts.

The second stakes horse today for HORSE CHESTNUT was the up and coming ISIPINGO, who finished a close third in the Grade 1, Clement L. Hirsch Memorial Turf Championship Stakes going a mile and one-quarter over the firm turf course at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.

ISIPINGO tracked the pacesetters and closed through the stretch to miss the win by a length and a neck!

NAMASTE'S WISH WINS MISS GRILLO STAKES!

Courtesy of Daily Racing Form
By DAVID GRENING

In Prussian (Danzig), trainer Bill Mott already has one of the leading contenders for the new $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. In NAMASTE'S WISH, the daughter of PULPIT, he may have one of Prussian's major challengers.

NAMASTE'S WISH, a full sister to Grade 1 dirt winner Purge, may have earned a spot in the Juvenile Turf at Monmouth Park on Oct. 26 with a three-quarter-length victory over Sea Chanter in Sunday's $81,900 Miss Grillo Stakes at Belmont Park.

It was the second victory in as many turf starts for NAMASTE'S WISH, who struggled mightily in her first two career starts on dirt, losing both by a combined 37 1/4 lengths.

"The thought of running her on the turf has always been in the back of my mind," Mott said. "Because of her pedigree, I thought she would handle the dirt well, but all she did in those first two starts was fight over the dirt. Obviously, she has handled the grass well. We may consider running her in the Breeders' Cup before putting her away for the year."

In the Miss Grillo, NAMASTE'S WISH raced up close in fourth down the backside under Kent Desormeaux while Sherine set the pace and Sea Chanter stalked her. Sea Chanter, under John Velazquez, took the lead in upper stretch, while Kent Desormeaux was getting Namaste's Wish off the rail. NAMASTE'S WISH rallied past Sea Chanter outside the sixteenth pole to gain the victory.

NAMASTE'S WISH, purchased for $600,000 at auction by Live Oak Plantation, covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:40.49 over firm ground and returned $8.30 as the third choice.

ARCH REBEL CLAIMS DIAMOND HONOURS
Courtesy of
Sporting Life

ARCH REBEL came from the rear of the field to capture the Diamond Stakes at Fairyhouse.

Noel Meade’s six-year-old had a lot to do entering the straight but found plenty for Fran Berry.

There were several horses with chances a furlong out but it was ARCH REBEL, challenging in the centre of the course, who came out on top in the Listed contest over a mile and a quarter.

Fracas was a length and a quarter away in second place with Crossing third.

Meade said: “The horse has been flying recently and Fran Berry said that each time he rides him, the horse feels better. Although this plan may seem a bit ambitious, he’s probably going to go for the Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot in a couple of weeks.”

RUTHERIENNE WINS GI DEL MAR OAKS!

RUTHERIENNE
, the 3-year-old daughter of PULPIT, moved to the very top of her class with a dazzling victory in the Grade I Del Mar Oaks going a mile and one-eighth over the seaside oval's firm turf course.

RUTHERIENNE arrived for her first visit to Southern California with her credentials firmly established. A winner six times from seven career starts, she was coming off consecutive stakes wins at Saratoga, Monmouth Park and Belmont Park in her last three trips to the post.

Drawing an outside post, jockey Corey Nakatani was able to move RUTHERIENNE smoothly to the inside as the leaders took the field through the chute and around the first turn. Content to gallop along down the backstretch, they pair moved off the rail and to the outside with three furlongs left to run. Rallying out in the five path, Nakatani glanced over his shoulder at the top of the stretch and then ask the filly to run. She exploded with a turn of foot that was a sight to behold. She outkicked multiple graded stakes winner Valbenny to win by two lengths in a final time of 1:46 3/5, two ticks shy of the stakes record.

"I rode this filly with a lot of confidence," Nakatani said. "I knew what I had, and I had a lot of horse. I spoke to Christophe (trainer Christophe Clement) this morning and I've watched several of her races. She has a terrific turn of foot - and you saw that today. I had to time her run just right; not too late, not too soon. That's my job. What a special feeling to win a race like this - a Grade I. She's a special filly."

"I was a little worried when she had to go wide, but she's a little bitty thing with a big heart," said Jane Turner, assistant to winning trainer Christophe Clement. "The race set up pretty much the way Christophe  said it would. You don't necessarily want to be that far back but they were going fast and with that kind of pace it sets up for her. She'll do what you want her to do. She's a filly with an attitude. She's a little package of dynamite and she lets you know she's boss."

RUTHERIENNE has now earned $561,695 for her owner/breeder Virginia Kraft Payson.

Virginia Kraft Payson LLC’s RUTHERIENNE continued with her impressive 2007 season Friday afternoon, but she got a fearless ride from jockey Garrett Gomez and a bit of luck to get the job done and win the 12th running of the Grade 3, $115,100 Lake George for three-year-old fillies at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf.

Stuck in traffic late in the race, the 3-year-old PULPIT filly was sent through a tight hole on the hedge to shoot in front of Classic Neel, then held on for a neck victory over Lady Attack in 1:40.34 on the firm course before Saratoga’s first Sunset Friday crowd of the season.

“She’s as game as she gets,” said trainer Christophe Clement, as  RUTHERIENNE recorded her sixth victory in seven career starts. “She’s great for this course because she is so handy. Garrett gave her a great ride. Sometimes, you get lucky; sometimes, you don’t.”

Luck usually rewards those who are prepared, and Gomez used his experience to make the winning decision to go up the hedge. He had saved ground, while Dashes N Dots set a pace of :23.13; :46.87; and 1:10.65, before surrendering the lead to Classic Neel.

“Just before we came off the turn, I wanted to make my way to the outside to give her a clear run,” Gomez said. “But they started to clog up and a couple started wheeling out. It looked like I was going to have to go 10-wide to get out there. I was actually saving a lot of ground and as I was saving ground, I kept picking up leaders and I was making it more difficult to wheel her out. My only worry was about the eighth-pole, when I had to come through on the last horse. It got a little tight for a second, but she never thought about it – I did. She’s a nice, little filly. She gives 110 percent every times she comes out there. I wish they were all like that.”

Clement said he would likely pass on the Grade 2, $150,000 Lake Placid here at nine furlongs on Friday, August 17 in favor of Belmont Park’s Grade 1, $200,000 Garden City at nine furlongs on the turf on Saturday, September 8.

It was a neck back to Sharp Susan in third. She was followed by Classic Neel, Silky Smooth, Good Mood, Miss Tizzynow, Red Burkin, Dashes N Dots, Bees and Awesome Ashley.

July 21, 2007:
LATTICE
, the homebred son of ARCH who races for the partnership of Adele Dilschneider and Claiborne Farm, set a new stakes record and scored his first stakes victory in the Grade 2, $250,000 American Derby going a mile and three-sixteenth over the turf course that was rated good at Arlington Park.

LATTICE was away cleanly and he settled outside a single runner, four lengths off the pace as the field rounded the clubhouse turn and made their run down the backstretch. He began to pick up the pace midway around the final turn and he was on even terms with the leaders at the top of the stretch. He put them away passing the eighth pole, opened up and then gamely went on to hold the closers safe, winning by three-quarters of a lengths. His final time was 1:54 4/5.

“I had a great trip,” said winning rider Robbie Albarado. “I had an outside spot. I was able to punch on him when I needed to. They stretched the race out so much turning for home – he kicked all right. He’s a nice colt. He’s been getting better every time.”

LATTICE has now won three of his five starts and he has earned $219,699. Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, he is out of the Rahy mare, Lateral.

ALVENA SET TRACK RECORD IN SHADY WELLS VICTORY!

Courtesy of Woodbine Entertainment
ALVENA
, sent off as the 1-5 favourite, set the Polytrack record for 5 ½ furlongs in the 52nd edition of the $150,000 Shady Well Stakes, Sunday at Woodbine.

The two-year-old filly trained by Josie Carroll, came into the race on the heels of an impressive six-length maiden-breaking score at 4 ½ furlongs on June 9, after a second-place finish in her career bow on May 12.

In the Shady Well, the daughter of SEEKING THE GOLD broke sharply, but was quickly overtaken to the inside by Executrix. After an opening quarter-mile in :22.29 and a half in :45.42, Alvena engaged the frontrunner to the outside at the quarter pole.

After driving clear in early stretch, the Jim and Alice Sapara homebred went on to a 2 1/4–length win in 1:04.09, besting the previous mark set by Crease Infraction, on April 21. First-time starter Mrs. Began rallied for third.

“She’s a lovely filly,” said Carroll, of the bay, who has gone postward as the favourite in all three of her lifetime starts. “We were delighted to see her relax today. That certainly bodes well for the future."

BOLD CHILD
became the FIRST WINNER for our Freshman Sire FLATTER!! The dark bay filly impressively scored in her career debut, taking the five furlong maiden special weight the opened the holiday card at Monmouth Park.

Contested over the fast main track, BOLD CHILD broke sharply from post five and immediately engaged in the pace battle. SENTIMIENTO CAT (ARG),
who won the Clasico Julio Felix Penna on May 18 in his racing debut, defeated all but one in the Group 1 Gran Premio Estrellas Juvenile going 1600 meters at San Isidro in his second start!

Sitting just behind the first flight until the top of the long stretch, the son of EASING ALONG boldly moved between horses and took the lead. Challenged immediately, he fought the eventual winner, who was making his third appearance in a Group 1 event, every step and was only bested in the late strides. He was four lengths clear of the third place finisher.

SENTIMIENTO CAT is out of the Tempranero (CHI) mare, Repartija. Tempranero is a son Litigator, who was by Kentucky Derby winner Cannonade out of the Del Mar Futurity and Norfolk Stakes winner, June Darling.

EASING ALONG’s first crop of 2-year-olds also includes the impressive G1 winner QUE PIENSA CAT.

June 30, 2007:
RUTHERIENNE
got a closer look at the Monmouth Park grandstand than she or rider Joe Bravo had probably intended as a result of interference in the stretch of the $150,000 Boiling Spring Stakes going a mile and one-sixteenth over the firm turf course at Monmouth Park.

The daughter of PULPIT rated near the back of the pack and moved to the outside coming off the final turn. She unleashed her late kick and joined the two leaders nearing the eighth pole. The trouble began when the inside filly Red Birkin carried out Sharp Susan, who in turn bumped and carried RUTHERIENNE out, slowing the momentum of her closing kick and pushing her out towards the outer rail.

At the finish, Red Birkin finished first by a neck over RUTHERIENNE, however, the stewards ruled that Red Birkin had interfered with Sharp Susan and they disqualified Red Birkin and placed her third. RUTHERIENNE was moved up to the win.

Bravo, who rode RUTHERIENNE for the first time, said, "I don't know what Jose (Lezcano, rider of Red Birkin) was doing or looking at. I had a ton of horse and she was closing down the outside with a full head of steam. Nothing against Lezcano, he's a good rider, but I guess in the heat of competition he messed up today."

RUTHERIENNE has now won five of her career starts and she has earned $252,635 for her owner/breeder Virgninia Kraft Payson. She is the second foal from the stakes winning Rahy mare, Ruthian.

June 24, 2007:

SMART ENOUGH dashed out of the gate and took control of the race. Never given a breather through fractions of :22 for the quater and :44 2/5 for the half, he threw a sub :12 second fifth furlong that broke the heart of the rest and then dug in resolutely to finish out the trip a half-length best in 1:08 2/5.

SMART ENOUGH races for Edith Dixon and he was bred by F. E. Dixon, Jr. Trained by John Fisher, he has seven wins, two seconds and one thirf in his ten career outings and he has earned $368,254. He is the first foal from the multiple stakes winning Polish Numbers mare, Quick 'n Smart.

SWEET FERVOR SCORES BY A HEAD IN WEST LONG BRANCH STAKES

Courtesy of Monmouth Park
Oceanport, N.J. - Kinsman Stable's SWEET FERVOR rallied widest around the turn before closing strongly down the center of the track and posting a head victory in the $65,000 West Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday.

Trained by Bill Mott, SWEET FERVOR covered the six furlongs over a fast track in 1:09 2/5 and returned $3.40, $2.40 and $2.10.  Solarana completed a $13.40 exacta and paid $3.60 and $2.60.  It was another head back to Suzzane who returned $2.60 to show in the field of seven fillies and mares.

"I saw Bill Mott yesterday and he told me I'd really enjoy this filly today," said winning rider Joe Bravo.  "The one thing he told me was that she doesn't like the stick, so I didn't hit her once today.  She had to overcome a lot, losing ground going wide and closing today.  She showed a lot of class this afternoon."

The West Long Branch score was the fifth in eight starts for the 4-year-old filly by SEEKING THE GOLD by the In Reality mare Undeniably, who has now banked $252,108 for her connections.  Earlier this year she captured the Grade 2 Shirley Jones Breeders' Cup Handicap at Gulfstream Park.

June 4, 2007:

June 2, 2007:
RUTHERIENNE WINS G3 SANDS POINT S.

RUTHERIENNE
flew through the stretch to finish on even terms for the victory in the Grade 3 Sands Point Stakes going a mile and one-eighth over the firm turf course at Belmont Park.

The daughter of PULPIT was coming off a victory in the Sugar Plum Time Stakes over the same course on May 12. At the back of the field behind slow fractions that saw six furlongs run in a pedestrian 1:14, the pace scenario was not setting-up for her closing style. Losing ground when she had to swing out wide coming off the turn, it appeared RUTHERIENNE had too much to overcome. But overcome it all she did. She unleashed a mighty turn of foot, stuck her nose out and away she went. Passing the field one by one, she got to the leader, Bit of Whimsy in the final stride and the two finished in a dead heat for the win.

Trainer Christophe Clement was in a lighthearted mood in the winner's circle.

“I like Barclay Tagg (trainer of Bit of Whimsy); we have to be good to the older generation,” said Clement. “She ran a huge race. She’s got a good kick and you’ve got to be nice to Barclay. I like to share. I thought we finished second, but she ran a very good race coming from out of it. (Jockey Garrett) Gomez said that the turf was very, very firm, and that worked against her. She is a very good filly. She’s made five starts and won three stakes.

“Not many three-year-old fillies have won three stakes by June 2," continued Clement. The last time I had a three-year-old filly that won this many stakes at this time of the year was Voodoo Dancer. I don’t know what we’ll do next. We can go to Hollywood or wait for Saratoga. I’ve just run her three times in 40 days. It might not be a bad idea to sit on her for a little bit.”

“The turf is very firm,” Gomez said. “The fractions were slow. She’s a filly we want to cover up, so there was nothing I could really do. She overcame that, and hopefully, she’ll keep moving forward. I had no idea at the wire.

RUTHERIENNE has won four of her five career starts and $162,635 for her owner/breeders, Pin Oak Stud.

June 2, 2007:
SMART ENOUGH SHATTERS MONMOUTH  TRACK RECORD!

SMART ENOUGH
destroyed the track record for five and one-half furlongs on the turf at Monmouth Park with his victory in the $60,000 Wolf Hill Stakes in his 2007 seasonal debut!

The son of HORSE CHESTNUT put on a sprinting clinic for his opponents. Dashing away from the gate, he blazed through an opening quarter in :21.45 and a half in :43.39. Opening up from the field, he set sail for the line, passing five furlongs in :54.84 and finishing up two and one-half lengths to the good in 1:00.81. That smashed the previous time of 1:02.75 by nearly two full seconds!

"This is his fourth track record," winning trainer John R.S. Fisher said, "so I wasn't that surprised how well he ran. I told Chris to just come out of there and see how it goes. We weren't necessarily planning on being in front. Chris told me that as soon as the gates opened, it was over. He trained very well up to this all spring."

This was the third stakes victory in three starts on Monmouth turf for SMART ENOUGH, who last year won the Lamplighter S. at one mile, and the Restoration S. at five furlongs. SMART ENOUGH now has a lifetime record of 6-1-2 in nine starts, and the $36,000 prize boosted his earnings to $256,065. Bred by F. E. Dixon, Jr., he races for Edith Dixon. He is the first foal from the multiple stakes winning, Polish Numbers mare, Quick 'n Smart.

May 28, 2007:
CORINTHIAN WINS G1 MET MILE!

CORINTHIAN
, the 4-year-old son of PULPIT, turned in a tremendously game performance to win the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park!!

The striking chestnut served notice he would be a force in the handicap division this season with his victory in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Handicap on March 3.

Breaking from post eight in the field of nine, he showed good speed and jockey Kent Desormeaux placed him on outside of the four-way pace battle for the long run down the backstretch. Midway around the long sweeping turn, two of the four in the pace battle dropped back, leaving CORINTHIAN to do battle with Grade 1 winner Latent Heat and the oncoming charge of multiple graded stakes winner Lawyer Ron and Political Force. CORINTHIAN took the lead at the top of the stretch and determinedly fought every step, repelling each challenge. Never headed, he began to draw away nearing the wire to win by three-quarters of a length.

“When I saw him break and laying that close, I knew we were in business,” Jimmy Jerkens said of his first Met Mile winner. “He ran to his workout the other day. I thought we had Lawyer Ron, and then I said, `Oh my God, here comes `The Chief’ (his father).’ We were going one at a time, worrying about this race. We’ll have to discuss it with his owners where he goes next.  He broke his maiden going a mile. The work a week ago [five furlongs in a bullet :58 on May 21] was beyond anything I ever saw. I never had a horse do what he did. He was just strong all the way. He was terrific all week. I thought if he didn’t run good today, he just wasn’t good enough.”

“From what I know of this horse, he’s come full circle,” Desormeaux said. “You couldn’t have planted me at the half-mile pole and asked for better position. More than the position was the way he was carrying me. When a good horse is traveling well, :45 feels like :48. I thought we were going slow, but I knew the caliber of horse I was on. He was so within himself. Coming to the three-eighths pole, he kind of got into gear and acted like he wanted to go for the wire. That was the only time I restrained him and said, `No, not yet.’ When the horses engaged, he jumped back in the bridle. I didn’t have to ask him for much, even when it was time to go. In the stretch, I thought he was just doing enough, quite frankly. All I could hope for at that stage of the race was that nothing came swinging wide and he couldn’t see it. He was really determined.”

CORINTHIAN races for Centennial Farms. Bred in Kentucky by the partnership of Gracefield Equine and Hargus Sexton, he is the second graded stakes winner produced by the Easy Goer mare, Multiply.

May 28, 2007:
BOB AND JOHN
prevailed in a thrilling duel to defeat Sweetnorthernsaint by a quarter-length in the Grade 3, $400,000 Lone Star Park Handicap going a mile and one-sixteenth over the very sloppy main track at the Grand Prairie oval.

Sitting just off the leader's flank for the first half, Garrett Gomez asked BOB AND JOHN to commence his rally and had his head in front at the six furlong call. A stretch long battle loomed and the son of SEEKING THE GOLD would not let his challenger by, holding him at bay every step to win by a neck.

“My horse was doing it so easy and at the half-mile pole, I eased up to the leader, and then just before we turned for home I said, ‘Let’s go,’ and he ran well for us all the way down the lane,” said  Gomez. “Both horses were fighting really hard through the stretch and this little horse does everything so well. He’s got a big heart and he tries hard.”

BOB AND JOHN races for his breeder, Stonerside Farm and he is trained by Bob Baffert. He is the third foal and second stakes winner from the graded stakes winning Deputy Minister mare, Minister's Melody. Winner of the Grade 1 Wood Memorial last season at three, BOB AND JOHN has won or placed in eleven of his fourteen career starts and he has earned $996,330.

May 27, 2007:
ECCLESIASTIC
, the son of PULPIT who is a half-brother to Claiborne stallion WAR FRONT, became the first two-time winner of the Grade 3 Jaipur Handicap at Belmont Park.

Contested over the lawn at seven furlongs when he was victorious in 2005, the race remained on the turf but was shorted a furlong beginning with last year's renewal. Midpack for the first half-mile, he moved out three wide coming off the turn and was clear to mount his challenge. He closed the three length gap and took the lead passing the eighth pole and went on win by nearly three lengths.

"I wasn’t surprised he was right up there," said winning rider Javier Castellano said. "I’m very lucky he broke good out of the gate. I just wanted to follow (Weigelia). I followed him the whole way. I could see he didn’t have much horse. My horse just gave me a great kick in the end. He was very impressive

“Now that he’s older, it doesn’t seem that he wants to go long anymore," said winning trainer Allen Jerkens said. "He might go a mile, but he’s got a lot of natural speed. I thought if he could stay in striking distance today, he would have a chance. I think his game is going short on the grass. We’ll see what races are out there for him.”

ECCLESIASTIC is a Joseph Allen homebred and he has earned $324,358. He is the first foal from the multiple stakes winning and multiple graded stakes producing Rubiano mare, Starry Dreamer. WAR FRONT is her second foal and recent Grade 2 Shuvee H. winner, Teammate is her third.

May 26, 2007:
WOOD BE WILLING
made a strong closing run to win the $61,050 Eight Thirty Stakes going a mile and one-eighth over the firm turf course at Delaware Park.

The 5-year-old son of PULPIT saved ground with a rail skimming run the whole trip. Tracking the pace to the top of the stretch, he was full of run, but needed room. The rail run opened nearing the eighth pole and WOOD BE WILLING dashed through, opened up and went on the win by two lengths.

WOOD BE WILLING has won or placed in nine of his fourteen career starts and he has earned $157,155 for his owner/breeders Irving and Marjorie Cowan. He is the first stakes horse produced by his dam, the Woodman mare, Woodmiss.

May 21, 2007:
Hip 188 at the 2007 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Preferred Two-year-olds in Training Sale in Timonium continued the top prices brought by MONARCHOS juveniles at the sales this season. The gray filly was purchased for $320,000 by Patrice Miller, EQB, Inc, Agent, the second highest price of the session and the top price for a filly.

Consigned by Off the Hook Partners LLC, Agent for Church Street Equine Investments LLC, the half-sister to three winners is out of the His Majesty mare, Palangana, a half-sister to the record setting graded stakes winner, Westheimer. This is the immediate family of Grade 1 winners, Banker's Lady and Ecton Park.

She previewed going two furlongs in :22 flat.

May 20, 2007:
SIGHTSEEING
, the 3-year-old son of PULPIT, came rolling through the Belmont stretch to win the Grade 2, $200,000 Peter Pan Stakes going a mile and one-eighth over the fast main track.

SIGHTSEEING, who was second last time out in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial, rated kindly four lengths off the pace for the run down the long backstretch. Going wide around the sweeping turn, he was two lengths away from the lead at the top of the stretch, but the leaders were not stopping. Jockey Edgar Prado asked SIGHTSEEING to dig in and give chase and he did, gaining with every stride. As the wired neared, he caught one competitor and then in the last jump, the other to win by a nose.

Brought along patiently by Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey, SIGHTSEEING skipped the first two legs of the Triple Crown, but he is possible for the Belmont Stakes.

“We’ll wait and see how he comes out of this,”McGaughey said. “The Belmont is possible. Back at the Wood Memorial, just knowing the horse and where he was at mentally, I was thinking about the Jim Dandy. We’ll see what happens. We’re here and I am sure the Phipps would love to run in the Belmont if they thought they had a legitimate chance.”

“Watching this race on TV, he was just galloping along behind those horses,” McGaughey said. “Turning for home, I said, `Hey, (Prado) never even asked him.’ Then, when he asked him, he still really didn’t know what to do. He needed to get two or three jumps before he got leveled off and going. When he steps it up, he isn’t going to have those two or three jumps. He’ll learn. This will be good for him. I wanted him to have a target. Edgar rode him like he had a target. In the Wood, when he lost his target, he sort of lost interest.”

“I was very comfortable all the way around,” Prado said. “He was galloping and was nice and beautiful in the bridle. I felt that when I turned him loose, he was going to explode. It took him more strides than I thought. He finally got into gear. I wasn’t sure until they put my number up. I think distance will suit him perfectly. He came back and wasn’t blowing that much.”

SIGHTSEEING is the second foal produced by the multiple Grade 1-placed Pleasant Colony mare, Resort.

Marie and Aaron Jones's MAIZELLE proved gamest in the stretch as she retook the lead after being headed and held off Prop Me Up to the wire for a neck victory in Saturday's $60,000 Monmouth Beach Stakes at Monmouth Park.

Promenade Girl made it a three-horse photo as she closed late to be just a neck behind Prop Me Up at the end of one mile run in 1:36 1/5 over the fast main track.

MAIZELLE, who gave jockey Chris DeCarlo his third straight winner on the card, paid $7, $3.60 and $2.80 across the board as second choice in the field of seven fillies and mares. Prop Me Up, who also went off at 5-2 but had a few dollars more bet to win on her, completed the $20.40 exacta. Promenade Girl, who won the Grade 2 Molly Pitcher Breeders' Cup Handicap here last year, also went off at 5-2.

DeCarlo sent MAIZELLE up along the rail at the three-eighths pole and held the lead around the turn. Joe Bravo, however, got Prop Me Up rolling on the outside around the bend and took a short lead passing the quarter-pole.

MAIZELLE refused to give up in the stretch, and regained a short lead inside the eighth pole. She proved stubborn to the wire, never letting her rival gain another inch.

The winner, a 4-year-old daughter of SEEKING THE GOLD trained by Todd Pletcher, scored her fourth win in seven lifetime starts. She was coming off a victory in a similar stakes race at Aqueduct.

Coming into the stakes, DeCarlo had taken the eighth race on Chucker for trainer Richard Dutrow, and the seventh on Peerless for Pletcher.

"Down the lane I was riding her," DeCarlo said of MAIZELLE. "But she seemed to respond more to the filly on my outside (Prop Me Up) than to my urging. She was very game. She knew where the wire was."

In addition, another first-crop juvenile, Compasivo Cat, won the Group 2 Guillermo Kemmis.

“This stallion is off to an impressive start,” said Claiborne’s Bernie Sams, “and as an added bonus, he’s a son of Storm Cat who is from a proven sire family. We couldn’t be more pleased to introduce him to U.S. breeders.”

EASING ALONG is out of Ballerina-G1 winner Cadillacing, who is a full sister to Belmont-G1/Travers-G1 winner Easy Goer. RUTHERIENNE WINS SUGAR PLUM TIME STAKES!

RUTHERIENNE
scored her second stakes victory and third win in her four career starts with her victory in the $68,500 Sugar Plum Time Stakes going a mile and one-sixteenth over the firm turf course at Belmont Park.

RUTHERIENNE rated kindly at the back of the pack for the first half-mile and began to inch closer around the turn. Launching her bid three wide at the top of the stretch, she rolled on by the leaders in midstretch and was nearly two lengths best at the wire.

RUTHERIENNE is a homebred racing for Virginia Craft Payson LLC and she is trained by Christophe Clement. She is the second foal from the stakes winning Rahy mare, Ruthian.

May 4, 2007:
DUVEEN
, the 3-year-old son of HORSE CHESTNUT, made it back-to-back grades stakes wins with his victory in the $188,700 Crown Royal American Turf (G3) going a mile and one-sixteenth over the yielding turf course on the Kentucky Oaks undercard at Churchill Downs.

DUVEEN, carrying co-top weight, was away well and under gentle rating, kept the pacesetter from having everything his own way around the first turn and down the backstretch. Moving up around the final turn and taking over the lead at the top of the stretch, he pinned his ears and tenaciously set sail for the wire, fighting off all the challengers to win by a half-length.

“I didn’t know if it (the yielding turf) would help him or hurt him and obviously it didn’t hurt him," said winning trainer Dale Romans. "As for what’s next, I’m not sure. We will have to talk about it.”

“This is a really nice colt," said winning rider Mark Guidry. "I told everybody a month ago that he would win this race. I thought there would be a better pace today. He was fresh today and he was really pumped up in the post parade. I tried to keep him as relaxed as possible and when we turned for home, he really exploded for me. I think he has a great future.”

DUVEEN has been nearly perfect on the lawn with his only loss coming by a short neck at Gulfstream Park in January. Now on a three race win streak, he has earned $203,640 for his owners, Andrew Farm. Bred in Kentucky by Richard Brodie, Robert Scanlon and James Buckley, he is out  of the graded stakes-placed and stakes producing Storm Cat mare, Casanova Storm.

May 4, 2007:
WANDERIN BOY
, the son of SEEKING THE GOLD, made his 2007 debut and handed the previously unbeaten Half Ours is first career defeat with his four and one-quarter length victory in the $112,300
Alysheba Stakes going a mile and one-sixteenth over the sloppy main track at Churchill Downs.

Breaking sharply from post two, WANDERIN BOY went straight to the lead and was never seriously threatened. Galloping along under jockey Corey Nakatani, he left the field behind in the stretch under a hand ride to win easily.

“He’s a very athletic horse," said Nakatani. "He did it the right way. Nick (trainer Nick Zito) told me to put him on the lead. I said, ‘OK, that’s fine.” And that’s what we did. It’s a tribute to Nick and his team what they’ve done with the horse.”

“He ran a tremendous race," said Zito. "We were worried about Half Ours, obviously. Hopefully, that horse will stay in the sprint races.”

Asked about the next start on WANDERIN BOY's dance card for the year, Zito said,"“Well, naturally, the best thing to look at, if everything goes good, is the Stephen Foster right here. That would be great.”

WANDERIN BOY is a homebred racing for Arthur B. Hancock III. He has won or placed in thirteen of his sixteen lifetime starts and he has earned $722,215. He is the fourth stakes horse produced by the multiple stakes winning Pleasant Colony mare, Vid Kid.

In addition to the stakes victories by DUVEEN and WANDERING BOY, there were two additional stakes performers for HORST CHESTNUT and SEEKING THE GOLD.

In the 5th race, LUNA DORADA, the 3-year-old SEEKING THE GOLD filly, rallied through the stretch to finish second by a short head in the $171,500 Edgewood Stakes going a mile and one-sixteenth over the yielding turf course.

The 7th race saw CONGO KING, the 4-year-old son of HORSE CHESTNUT rallied up the inside after a rocky start to finish third in the Grade 3, $169,050 Aegon Turf Sprint Stakes going five grassy furlongs.

She dug in when the closers came calling and would not let her by, maintaining her half-length advantage to the wire.

MAIZELLE races for Aaron and Marie Jones and she is trained by Todd Pletcher. She has three wins and three seconds in her six career outings. UNBEATEN ARCH FILLY WINS G3 GUINEAS TRAIL

In the first of the big Guineas trials in Europe, undefeated 3-year-old ARCH filly ARCH SWING kept her record perfect when she captured Saturday’s 1000 Guineas Trial (G3) at Leopardstown going seven furlongs.

The 2006 Weld Park S. (G3) heroine was making her first start of the year and third lifetime. The even-money favorite swept to the lead about a furlong out, then outfinished her John Oxx-stablemate Four Sins in a thrilling run to the wire. She remains one of the top choices for the Stan James 1000 Guineas at Newmarket next month.

"I thought she was pretty fit but she got a bit tired towards the finish," said Oxx to the Racing Post.  "She is a big, masculine filly who takes plenty of work and she did come on a lot from her first run last season. Hopefully, she will do the same this year. They did a good job watering the track and the ground is genuinely good, though Mick (Kinane) thought that it was probably just a bit slow for this filly. She likes it fast."
