Claiborne Acquires Breeding Interest in Breeders’ Cup Sprint Hopeful WAR FRONT

2006 Vanderbilt-G2 Winner to Stand at Claiborne upon Retirement

Claiborne Farm has purchased the breeding rights in Joseph Allen’s WAR FRONT, according to an announcement made today by Claiborne’s Bernie Sams.

A leading contender for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint-G1 on November 4, WAR FRONT won the Alfred G. Vanderbilt-G2 earlier this year at Saratoga. The model of consistency, he has finished first or second in all six of his 2006 starts, including his two most recent efforts in  the Forego-G1 and Vosburgh-G1. The 4-year-old colt has raced exclusively in graded stakes at 6 to 7 furlongs this year, and he has earned Beyers up to 114 and defeated top sprinters Silver Train, Mass Media, Commentator, and Bishop Court Hill.

As a 3-year-old last year, he scored three consecutive wins with authority: a Saratoga maiden special weight by 11 1/2, a Belmont allowance by 6, and the Princelet S. by 8 going 1 1/16 miles. “WAR FRONT has tremendous speed and heart,” said Claiborne Farm President Seth Hancock.

“Not only is he an attractive son of DANZIG, he is out of a mare whose record as a producer speaks for itself. We are very pleased to have him.”

Bred and owned by Allen, the son of two-time Leading Sire Danzig was foaled and raised at Claiborne. He is out of the multiple stakes winner and major producer STARRY DREAMER, a runnerup in the Grade 1 Gazelle as well as five other graded stakes. WAR FRONT’s half-sister TEAMMATE (A.P. Indy) won the 2006 Bonnie Miss S.-G2 and was second to divisional leader Pine Island in both the Gazelle-G1 and Alabama-G1. His half-brother ECCLESIASTIC (Pulpit) won the 2005 Jaipur S-G3.

“I am excited that this horse is going to stand at Claiborne Farm,” said Allen. “Their ability to establish a stallion is unsurpassed.”

WAR FRONT will be retired after the Breeders’ Cup. He will enter stud in 2007, and his fee will be announced later in the year. For further information, please contact Bernie Sams at Claiborne Farm, telephone (859) 233-4252, or email bernie@claibornefarm.com.
